Free PDF Template: Fussy Cutting Made Easy
Want to showcase a specific motif or pattern from your fabric on the coasters? There's a free template available on the video page to help you with fussy cutting.
Fussy cutting is the technique of carefully positioning your pattern pieces to center or highlight particular designs within the fabric, like a favorite flower, character, or geometric pattern. Instead of randomly cutting your fabric, you're being intentional about which part of the print shows up in your finished coaster. The template takes the guesswork out of the process.
While many online examples of fussy cutting show intricate and beautiful patterns I simply used it to avoid having the blue swirls show up in the coasters, and only show the peach and yellow.
What You'll Need:
- 5 Cotton fabric squares, 4 are for the top of the coaster and 1 for the backing.
- Basic sewing supplies (thread, scissors, pins)
- A sewing machine
- An iron
