The film celebrates the knitted sock and knitting as a symbol of domestic labor and care, a skill often undervalued yet passed down through generations. Shot solo in 24 hours during the filmmaker's own grieving process, it captures the meditative nature of knitting and how it's both comforting and a confrontation with absence.
Love and connection grow through small, repeating acts: a brief phone call, or yarn worked stitch by stitch into a sock that keeps loved ones warm for years to come.
Director Statement
My grandmother's love lived in small, daily acts, like a mini Mars bar on my pillow, a warm water bottle in bed or the countless stitches turning yarn into a sock. Love and connection grow through those small and repeating acts.
It's like how a single thread breaks easily, but knitted together it becomes a strong, yet soft fabric that protects you from the elements.
After she passed, I felt compelled to talk about her, and tell the world, she was here and she was loved. I used her last unfinished sock as a symbol for how she manifested her love.
Knitting is where I find solace, a connection to my grandmother, and a reminder of that loss.
I wanted to capture knitting's intimate rhythms in close detail, revealing how this often dismissed craft holds profound skill and emotion. The film moves at the pace of the work itself: slow, meditative, building strength through repetition.
It's a tribute to my grandmother and all the women who show love through patient acts rather than words. Their love keeps us warm even after they're gone.

Biography
Charlotte Kan studied fashion design at the Willem de Kooning Academy. She is based in Rotterdam, where she teaches fiber crafts while developing her self-taught filmmaking practice. Her debut short documentary weaves together her love of fiber crafts with a personal story about losing her beloved grandmother.
